This year's resolution
As 2009 draws to a close, I recall that at the start of 2009, I set out to focus on ‘gratefulness’. In 2010, I am committing to pursue ‘gentleness’. On the opening page of my new diary, I wrote, ‘To cultivate a character like Christ’s, focussing on the virtue of gentleness’.
2 Tim 2:24-25 says, “And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome...

Please remember to put 'flim' in the camera
I realise that I haven’t really been blogging for the last 2 weeks properly, so here’s a brief recap of the Christmas season! So it looks like this- in incomplete pictures: after camp, the few dominant activities have really been hanging with the younglings,
the YA Botanics Picnic 20/12,
Christmas shopping 22/12, Fellowship Christmas Dinner at Botanics again 23/12, and then...

The Pursuit of Happiness 2009
Two days ago, I wrote this: “Soon to come: updates regarding Youth Camp, lessons on mentoring, prayer, worship, joy, the Church picnic, youth, the Botanic Gardens, and Advent. It’s 211am I just got home, and I am totally exhausted. Need to recharge.”
I’ve been running around frantically, trying to finish my Christmas shopping the last few days, and it’s madness! I...

When camp is over
…there will be a flood of thoughts from me. I’ve learnt so much from watching, interacting, listening, and praying with the Youths that it’s quite incredible. As I told Ollie, it makes me almost itch to do Youth Ministry again. But that’s probably not going to happen. But all the same, it fills me great joy (there’s that word again) to see and hear what the Lord is...

Johnny Mac reminds us of the root of Pragmatism. I... →
But when pragmatism is used to make judgments about right and wrong, or when it becomes a guiding philosophy of life and ministry, it inevitably clashes with Scripture. Spiritual and biblical truth is not determined by testing what “works” and what doesn’t. We know from Scripture, for example, that the gospel often does not produce a positive response (1 Cor. 1:22, 23; 2:14). On...

Target
Target, not like the store, but like, being a target. I’m far from one of those spiritualist, see the Devil around the corner Christians, but one of the things I’ve become quite convinced is that when we commit ourselves to the Lord’s work, and the ministry of the Gospel, our spiritual standing becomes an immediate target for the enemy and His destructive work. He loves to...

Look out for judgmentalism
“Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?...

Question and Answer III
Last night we met again for Fellowship at the House, a slightly smaller group than normal, of about 14 people or so, and did week three of question and answers, which has been dragging on for some time now! It’s been three weeks! And we’re still plowing through the list! Haha. I have been very amazed how God really helps us get through things, and specifically, one of His amazing...

This should actually be a link, but I liked the images so much I really wanted to put them on my blog!
Check out the qualifications of a worship pastor written by Resurgence pastor Tim Smith. Very thought provoking, complementing what Bob Kauflin too, writes on the subject.
Also, check out theresurgence.com’s take on New Calvinism. The good folks there did a short summary of the...

The Advent Concert
6th December was a very special day for me- the first full choir project I participated in since coming home for good. The beautiful SAM chapel/auditorium was full of guests, friends and well-wishers, and we were nervous- but God was gracious, and He enabled us to sing joyfully of Advent! I’m so glad we had this concert- it really was such a joy to be a part of Choir again. I spent a lot...

Before the weekend arrives- ACJC Alumni Advent...
Okay, two days down to Advent concert. The Advent series really began last year in 2008, and this is the second time we’re doing it. It’s a great way to keep fit vocally, and of course, meditate as well as spread the Christmas cheer. What is it?
We’re performing in a concert that focuses on the liturgical ‘anticipation’ of Christ’s birth and Incarnation....

Stumbling but not falling yet
This week has been tough. Plenty of external cause for worry, frustration, bitterness, and general anxiety. I’ve walked around this week with my head slightly dizzy and my eyes slightly cloudy. Combination of the anxiety and the stress of things have given me little headaches here and there.
It seems so impossible to live in the present when we’re so worried about the future.

You can try and fight, but you won't win.
Hmm. What is Permanent Excuse Uniform? And together with Permanent Excuse Stay In. Sounds good to me.
And I read Sons of Fortune (Jeffrey Archer), Paul Tripp’s midlife book, and The Shack today. The latter is weird.
Your move.
